Aeroo's new dedicated smart controller for the Aeroo Pro heavy-lift fishing drone is the kind of accessory that quietly raises the bar for the category — and reviewer DansTube has now spent enough flights with the unit to call it a meaningful upgrade for bait-dropping anglers, even with a handful of caveats.
"Aeroo are back again in a big way with their brand-new smart controller," DansTube said at the top of the review, posted in late April 2026. "For full disclosure, the Aeroo Pro and the Aeroo Smart Controller was sent out directly by Aeroo. This video has been sponsored by Aeroo, but all of my thoughts expressed throughout this video are my own and it hasn't been influenced by them at all."
The physical hardware is where the controller picks up most of its early praise. "Immediately, the first thing I noticed when I picked up the smart controller is just how well it's built. It feels sturdy, it's got a nice amount of weight to it, ergonomics are on point here, and everything just feels great," DansTube said. The control sticks unscrew and stow inside the controller for transport, although in practice he left them attached. The one piece of the build that drew criticism was the antennas — "they feel like the cheapest part of the controller… a little bit too flimsy or plasticky for my liking."
The screen is where the controller earns its keep on a bait-dropping mission. The 2,000-nit sunlight-readable panel held up in direct light, which is exactly the condition shore-based fishing drone pilots most need it to handle. "You bump it right up to its peak. But even in direct sunlight, I found that there wasn't a huge amount of glare. I didn't have to move that much," DansTube said. "Really impressive in its peak setting with that brightness setting. I found it was great in any condition."
Battery life, another sore point on previous controllers, has stretched to a claimed six hours. "I never had to charge it from all of my tests. I probably have used it for 4 hours now, I would say, and never had to charge it at all. It's still got a decent amount of charge in it," he said. "Battery life seems amazing."
Most relevant for anglers is how the controller handles bait drops and repeat runs. The Aeroo Pro's saved-location feature lets pilots program a productive drop point and replicate it cast after cast. "I love that you can save the location as well to replicate it. If it's a fishing spot for example, you can replicate that drop point every single time. So that works really nicely," DansTube said. Combined with a startup time of roughly a minute from cold to airborne, the workflow he describes sounds custom-made for surf and beach work: "You're probably going to get to a fishing spot, launch the drone, drop your bait in, bring the drone back, and then turn the drone and the controller off. And then when you're ready to go again… you can launch it and do the same thing."
The controller is not without rough edges. The Aeroo Pro itself is engineered for payload capacity and wind resistance rather than cinematic footage, and DansTube was clear on that: "The camera quality just isn't there and it's definitely not designed to be a camera drone. The video looks fine, it's usable just at a glance if you want to see an area… but for the most part, I found that it was either too yellow the image or just the quality wasn't entirely there." He also struggled with playback through the Aeroo app during testing and ran into bugs replaying SD card footage — issues he attributed to early software rather than the hardware itself.
What the drone does do, it does well. "What it is designed for though is its payload rating and for its wind resistance. So that's where it really excels. I flew in extremely windy conditions, had no issues. It really does command the sky nicely," DansTube said. Combine that with a touchscreen he calls "extremely responsive," a full-size HDMI output, a microSD slot for offline playback and a USB-C charge port, and the verdict is straightforward: the smart controller is the accessory most Aeroo Pro owners should plan to add. "The core experience is 100% there and I've really enjoyed using that smart controller… I think they've done a great job."
