Held annually in Sandestin, the tournament has become a hallmark event for sport fishing enthusiasts, earning its reputation through thrilling competition and notable performances.
The tournament's peak moment arrived on a lively Saturday afternoon, when the All-In Southern Charm team made waves with a massive catch. The 654.6-pound blue marlin, skillfully reigned in by angler Ron Davis, clinched the Top Blue Marlin prize and a total of $522,045. "It's an incredible feeling to catch a fish like that, especially in such a competitive field," said Davis, who fished aboard a 62-foot Viking with Captain Landon Bell at the helm.
Rivaling the excitement was the second-place catch by Team Devotion, whose angler Nathan Bearden reeled in a 640.4-pound blue marlin shortly before the tournament concluded. "To come this close to winning is just exhilarating," remarked Bearden after securing a payout in excess of $238,000. Their performance was not only commendable but also highlighted the strength of their crew, led by Captain Jason Hallmark.
Adding to the excitement, the third-place team, A Work of Art, brought in a 604.4-pound blue marlin, earning over $206,000 in the process. Their thrilling catches underscored the high stakes and impressive skills on display throughout the competition.
In the release division, Team Supreme showed dominance with a remarkable tally of five billfish released, which earned them a total of 2,175 points. "Releasing that many fish in such a fierce tournament is an achievement in itself," expressed team member Alex Krake, who also earned Top Release Angler honors along with a payout of $174,345. Fishing aboard a Viking 72 under Captain Chase Lake's guidance, Team Supreme showcased their prowess and strategic finesse on the water.
The Andrew's team of Devotion, not only finished second in the blue marlin category but also made their mark with a strong performance in the release division, placing second overall with an impressive total of 2,640.4 points. Their combined efforts resulted in more than $238,000 in winnings while also earning the title of Top Crew for their collaborative performance.
In broader gamefish categories, various teams also showcased their skills. The vessel Mae claimed the title of Top Dolphin with a commendable 50.5-pound catch, while the team on Squid Row was celebrated for landing the Top Wahoo at 54.9 pounds. Knot Done Yet switched gears to dominate the tuna division, bringing in a hefty 181.4-pound yellowfin, collectively netting about $122,700 across the gamefish categories.
Across the tournament, whether measured by weigh-ins or releases, the statistics underscored the commitment of the anglers. A total of 91 billfish were caught during the event, with 86 released back into the waters, marking an impressive release rate of 94.5%. Additionally, teams managed to bring 51 gamefish to the scales, which included a notable 25 yellowfin tuna.
